Re: KwaZulu Natal Hunt Report

Did you have any problems moving guns through Durban Airport? ...they have a reputation for being less than gun friendly.

Thanks for the comments guys!!

Durban - Durban was about as much trouble as JNB, in that the operators dont know what to do with the ammo box. I took Shakaris advice just to ask the airline operators what THEY wanted to do with it BUT as I found out, they never know what to do with it and it can take a very long time for them to get the right advice... I think that could be a major issue, in that if there isnt much time till you fly you could miss loading/boarding. My recommendation to anyone going through any of those ports now is to simply TELL them that your locked ammo box has to be checked separately through security, with your rifle. That seems to be the accepted process now, you might as well expedite it instead of standing around for 30-40 mins while the operator gets advice on it.

Funny you should mention antis in Durban... when I was checking-in the operator next to the sweet girl I had, asked about the rifle and asked if I had been hunting. He started throwing some anti-hunting crap my way and I was just about to rip into him when some other clients came up to the counter. My wife was pretty happy I didnt get the opportunity cause she knows what Im like in those situations and there is a better than average chance that we wouldnt have been flying that day!!!!!! I have never encountered that level of rudeness and bigotry ... from an airline operative no less!!

Anyhow - that was only minor... I dont think Durban will give anyone any major problems, if you know the procedures and such. Sure you can get an unhelpful operator but hell you can get them anywhere in the world!! The security people were fine too!!
