From what I have read (old books), the Jaguar is a maneater. The Jaguar has a large range due to lower density of game in S. America. If you can ever get a copy of "Tigrero" by Sasha Siemel, get it. It is an interesting read about Sasha in the S. America doing the Gold Rush thing (sound familiar for several different continents). Anyway he has references to mankillers more than maneaters for certain Jaguars.
