An incident earlier in the year: Zimbabwe: 'Man Eaten by Lions' The Herald 11 January 2010 Harare — A 22-YEAR-OLD man from Chiramba Village in Kanyemba is feared to have been devoured by a lion after he had gone fishing at night last week. Mashonaland Central police spokesperson Inspector Memory Pamire confirmed the incident. She said the man had gone fishing in the Zambezi River with a colleague. "The man ran out of fishing worms and decided to go home to fetch more. "His colleague continued fishing until the following morning," Insp Pamire said. "On his way back home he came across the remains of his friend -- a head and some body parts. "The area is heavily infested with wild animals like lions and there are fears he might have been devoured by lions," added Insp Pamire. She, however, said investigations were under way to establish the cause of death. Insp Pamire urged people living in areas with wild animals to avoid travelling at night. "As police we advise people living in areas infested with wild animals against travelling during the night. "If they have to travel they have to do so in groups," she said. Attacks by wild animals are common in the Zambezi area, which is home to most species of animals including predators like lion. http://allafrica.com/stories/201001111157.html |
