I used my .30-06 with 200 gr Nosler Partitions. The PH was especially pleased as another (pseudo) PH at camp said it couldn't be done with such a 'small' calibre. One heart shot with an insurance shot.

Dantri (BigFive) on here in the past used his .243.

But I agree, the 9.3x62 or .375 is pretty ideal.
