Re: Mugabe `s promised land

Van Wyk's father died in 1998. Later that year, he said, Zimbabwean soldiers forced his staff from his prized game ranch just east of Hwange National Park, a haven for elephants, buffaloes, zebras, giraffes and big cats. Four years later, he said, 32 soldiers came to his cattle ranch and gave him 24 hours to pack his furniture and leave.

If Con is Pierre's father, then in 2002 that property was Nemba and I was on the property when he was first thrown off it. Nemba, except it wasn't a cattle ranch.

Pierre's father lived elsewhere on the property from the main compound.

If not, his property was probably hit the same day/period as over thirty properties was invaded by drugged up "war vets" protected by police that day. I drove one of the van Wyks vehicles loaded full of their stuff to Vic Falls. On the way very sad seeing people not prepared for it, piling possessions in a pathetic pile on the road in front of their house, a nursing mother sitting nearby ...

Probably a lot of these properties are now poached out, the farms little pathetic subsistence plots.
