I shot one with my wife's Smith and Wesson Model 640 .38 a month or two ago.

This particular feline was missing the cat box and otherwise making a nuisance of itself. But unlike Bramble, I consider shooting them inside the house quite unsporting, not to mention the mess it leaves on the carpet, so I waited till it left the premises for a stroll.

In open range with no fences of any kind restraining its movement, it was a truly wild experience.

There was some amount of habitual conditioning present in the animal tho, and it took some doing to shoo it off the porch and in to the garden where I felt the exiting bullet would not damage anything of any importance.

I used softs only though I have a box of solids. Reading the posts here on the big cats I felt I was in pretty good stead with softs only.

As it turned out, the +P 125 JHP stopped the cat immediately but no exit could be found so I am questioning the penetration of this particular load. I admit I broke a self-imposed rule of never firing a round of ammo till I have tested the same type in my media or on carcasses of the same type of critter.
