I'll add a comment in answer to Tophet's about why overseas hunters get charged more and 9.3x57's reply to that question. To some degree it depends on what African country is being hunted but broadly speaking: There's two pricing structures for local and foreign hunters for very good reasons. Local hunters don't need the same paperwork, don't usually get any facilities provided such as food, booze, bedding, vehicles, fuel and they don't need a PH etc. Foreign hunters on the other hand, need all of those things plus trophy skinning and export and a lot more paperwork & Govt licences ansd permits etc. The other big difference is that local hunters usually take the cull animals such as females and young animals etc and most overseas hunters are there to take trophy animals that have a higher commercial value. I should also point out that similar two tier pricing structures also occur elsewhere in the world. Notably the USA where even out of state hunters have to pay a premium. I don't know but I'd guess that the same probably applies in Oz as well(?) Believe me guys, the VAST majority of people in the safari industry are only out to run a business that delivers a good product at a fair price and nothing more and frankly, I don't know of a single person who does it for the money. Hell, you could earn more doing pretty much anything ese than you can earn out of hunting........ and believe me, most of those ways are less work, less hassle and a bloody sight safer than hunting. |
