Re: Brittany Boddington Leopard Incident

Quote:

Good point. Would appear to indicate that BB knew there had been an attack which is why she shot.

I think more likely it is reconstructed after the fact, common in these sorts of things.

Duggaboy, yes, read them again. Interesting stuff. Lots to base mental gymnastication on...

Questions, questions, questions...

To me, witnesess' first testimonies and police reports are places to start, not places to end an investigation.

Jabali mentioned a discrepancy. I saw alot of similarities. Complete agreement usually means complete and thorough discussion of the event between players in my experience. As a personal note, I used to be amazed at how DIFFERENT two witnesses testimony could be after an incident. Now I consider substantial differences in perception to be normal. 100% agreement is pretty rare.

One point of agreement really got me curious. Both say the event took less than 4 seconds. Perceptions of time are in my experience just about the most divergent personal experiences two or more people can have. It is obvious both have discussed the event at length before they gave the police their testimony. That shouts out loud and clear; the PH explains BB's thinking at the time, and she explains various events that could only be known to her by communicating with the others after the fact. This is of course normal when hours elapse between the primary event and the testimony. But it does skew the original thinking of the witnesses on what was going on and what the involved did.

More questions;

So how bad were Punki's tooth/claw injuries? What doctoring at the scene, if any? The leopard is said to have grabbed him by the belt {near the impact of the bullet...} but later it is said he was bit in the ankle. Possibly he was bit in both areas but if so the need for immediate doctoring seems to go up, but none is mentioned. A rifle shot to the hip? Must have been a VERY slight wound as any bullet involvement with bone there is going to be serious indeed. Yet he is said to be recovered. I guess a definition of "fully recovered" would help. It might not be the same definition a person would use to describe their own healing...

Why did Zukile fall in front of the leopard? Did the leopard trip him? Did he run into or trip over Punki? Did he just trip over a stick on the ground?

Quite honestly, there are many, many other questions I have about the testimonies. Not accusations, QUESTIONS.

Lots to learn from such an incident. Here are some things already mentioned and I think pretty legitimate.

1} Wear visible clothing; orange vest, etc. {This one seems legit regardless of an attack in light of the very brushy terrain it seems these critters are hunted in.}

2} Don't shoot unless you can fully ID your target and know where every other person is.

3} Never expect a leopard to me miles away!!
