Many good points are made in this thread, that is what makes this forum the best on the internet. When it all comes down to it, each individual makes up their mind based on personal situation. When I hear H&H, I think of Africa. It doesn't matter what the cost per shell is. I know PG hunt in SA will be nothing like the romance of Hemingway's days, but I will milk every bit of romance out of Africa possible and enjoy every minute. Good and bad. When I get back on the forum May 13th, I will write a trip report.

I took a 375 H&H on a cow elk hunt near Coleville Utah. 375 H&H is big medicine on Elk, but then again anything shot well will do the trick. I have a friend who regularly harvests elk with a .243
Not exactly what I recommend, but it works for him. Take what works best for you.
