FWIW the 30/06 will take the koodoo and gemsbok without blinking an eye. Why take 2 firearms when one will suffice. 2 rifles is twice the paperwork and twice the worry and you can nearly bet the rifle you want to use on a particular animal will be neatly tucked away in the buggy when the particular animal materialises from the bush. A tid-bit of advice on rifles and buggy's. I was told before I went not to put my rifle in the racks on the hunting vehicle or let anyone else carry them. someone i know got caught up in the moment and put his rifle in the rack without even his padded case and had it knocked off zero and didn't know until he had to pay the trophy fee for a lost animal (it wasn't me BTW) Having said that, hunting is a very individual pastime on most levels and most will do what their heart tells them to do. I own to .375H&H's but I knew my 06 was more than up to the job and that's what i took and came home with all my critters in the salt. As someone else said, trust your PH or find another. To some extent romance can get in the way of practicality sometimes. I am fortunate that I am in a position that I could buy a double like the one that was mentioned in the DR pages in the last few days and still go to Zim in August, but I don't like the idea of shelling out that many clams for a gun I will only use once or twice. The difference between the DR and the CZ bolt gun I have is my moose/grizz hunt in Alaska next year which I will be taking both with an 06. Just my .02 CF |
