Re: Heading to Africa, which gun should I take?

It's all been said already, but here's my.02

I used a 30/06 with 180 woodleighs on my first safari to RSA in 05. Never lost an animal, never felt under gunned or unromantic. Impala, Warthog, Blue Wildebeest, Steenbok, Gemsbok all one shot kills. My Kudu took a couple of days to track down to finish the job, but it wouldn't have mattered if I had been using a .577 the wound was such that all concerned agreed if we hadn't found him again, he would have lived to fight another day (I would have still had to pay the trophy fee though) This was caused by huge underestimation of the range by my PH (and me)When I caught up with him it only took one shot.

Take what you can shoot better, but FWIW IMO there is no need for a .375 or two rifles on a PG hunt in RSA.

But the above is my opinion and experience only. I have also used the 06 in Alaska on a Grizz and here on a scrub bull (one shot down like a bag of spuds) and intend to take it to Zim this August for the PG portion of my hunt.
