I assume it's RSA but don't see anything to prove it and as they don't appear to be members of PHASA, my guess is nothing can be done anyway. KZN for one allows Big 5 to be bowhunted. My memory is a bit vague on some points, but the basic story is that some years ago (probably close to 20) Tony Tompkinson (now of Tony Tompkinson Safaris) was working for the parks board and as they knew he was a bowhunter, they asked him to conduct an experiment that I'd guess will never be repeated. They asked him to bowhunt 100 animals from the smallest to the biggest, make exact notes of impact area, tim it took to go down and PM the animals for a damage report. Then he had to repeat the excercise on another 100 animals with a rifle. Before he started, he took time out for a lot of practice and preperation and by the time he was ready to start, his back and shoulder muscles made him look like the hunchback of Notre Dame. At the end of the 200 animals, Tony wrote a report which the parks board decided to adopt in it's entirety and since then, they've allowed Big 5 and other bowhunting. - If I remember correctly, there are certain draw pull minimums for elephant, hippo, rhino and I think buffalo............ 80 lbs rings a bell.... |
