I don't think it really matters much as if the wind is in your favour, they're not gona smell you and if it isn't, they will. - Hell (in the Selous) I've even smoked in a Lion blind with something like 20 odd Lions/Lionesses laying around the bait about 20 yards away, but as the wind was in my favour, it didn't cause any problems. I have also on occasion, either in a blind or when waiting for a herd of resting Buffalo to stand up, lit a few lumps of Elephant shit to hide our scent if we had swirling winds...... The animals are very used to the smell of smouldering (natural) odds and ends in the bush. |
