John,we had a similar experiance.This was about 10 years back,we were on a ibex hunt and crossing the Hingol river in Balochistan.When we entered the water it was hardly 12 inches deep but as we progressed it started to rise all of a sudden and when we were half way down it was over the hood of our Landcruiser.We quickly grabbed our guns and gear and got out,the vehicle was slowly being swept away,such was the force of the water.Luckily a truck belonging to an oil exploration co. was passing by and it had a winch and steel cable and thus our vehicle was pulled out in time.Our driver being a mechanic had the vehicle rolling within a few hours.
