As I said, you can't use that notch on the old Sako, either. It all depends on the individual rifle and your circumstances. I remember a mate shot a fallow when in England and his host carried the rifle to the high seat still in the case. We hunt sambar and they don't hang around for you to do anything elaborate or noisy. I'll remember your point in regard to my own Mannlicher, however.
