While I do love the Partitions, I have found the Speers a bit better one shot killers in the Whalen, at its slower velocities. Just my experience with the old 35. My first was with a re-barreled 03A3 in 1968; the next is with my present Remington 700 Classic. With its inherent faults, I have to say I do like the 700 in the Whalen, and used it on some plains game with great results. It so closely resembles the 9,3x62 and 9,3x74r that it is a fine medium bore up to big bears. The big bruins require some smack that I feel is a bit lacking in the Whalen. The bigger brownie seems to have somewhat less of a highly developed nervous system and requires a "stopper" caliber sometimes. Many have been taken with a 270, however. Have fun with that wonderful American Classic, now reborn. |
