Agree there are various ideas on this--personally, I clean the gun very well as described above-using Hoppes--then either Barnes or Sweets-- After which time I clean after every shot for the first 10 shots--then after every for the next 10--after which time I clean after every group for the next 10 or so-- I feel when I spend $400 plus for a new barrel--and I will probably have that barrel for 3 to 5,000 rounds--it is worth my effort to take a bit of time to break it in..plus with higher grade barrels they clean very easy--you can tell a great deal just by how easy it cleans...
