mcb, Remington did chamber the 700 Classic in 35 Whalen about 10 years ago, and I got one pronto! It is a good rifle in a great caliber. I am still looking for one in 300 H&H, but don't know why. I have an old 721 in 300 H&H with the correct 26" barrel...a tack driver! Oh...we are talking 8x57...I use its older brother, the 8x57jr in drillings and O/U combo guns. Even at the reduced velocities of the JR, it is a great bushveldt caliber. I recently pried a drilling in 12/12/8x57jrs away from Lee LeBas of L&L. It takes the .323 bullet, and I got it for N. America hunting in closer type conditions and for African bushveldt. The 8x57js is a great old caliber that still holds its own with any 250 yard caliber. With the very good bullets out now, it is even better than ever. |
