Quote: You guys are going to think I'm nuts, but my son is only 2 1/2 years old. I wanted to do something special for him and since you never know what may happen in life, I wanted to start on the project while there is still air in my lungs and money in my pocket. Now, I have to let everyone know that I AM NOT building a youth model rifle for my son. This will be for when he is older and the rifle he will (hopefully) hunt with the rest of his life. With that being said, I'm PROBABLY going to have the LOP of the blank cut to 14 1/2" and have a small red recoil pad installed. This way when he is older if he needs a longer or shorter LOP, it should be able to be done for him without much problem. I find that 14 1/2 LOP is IDEAL for both my father and I. My father-in-law's guns also fit me nice, so I'm estimating that my my boy MAY have the same LOP as me when older. Regarding the sights, I plan to have them regulated for 180 grains. I figure that the .30-03 is just about perfect for 95% of the big game he will hunt 95% of the time in North America. |
