I'd thought of the catalogs, I too have some reprint catalogs from cornell.
The images from the catalogs don't really represent the kind of detail I want to see. Much of the detail seen in those catalogs is from drawings or etching prints of the design.

I really want to see photos of actual rifles.
What ended up on the metal was typically somewhat different in detail from what was shown in print.
