When I lived in South Western Ontario, the game regulations said it was the duty of every lawful hunter, to erradicate any domestic carnivour found more than 500 yards from outbuildings. That meant cats and dogs. I started off using the 10/22 then graduated to a 6.5RemMag with 100gr. Speer HP's at 3,200fps - both worked, the 6.5 was rather spectatular, though.
: I've never seen a wild dog running loose in BC. The coyotes and wolves eat them. Even an average single male coyote will quicky kill a grown German Sheppard. The females, if in heat, get bred instead of killed. That's the worse case senario. Coy-dogs.
