Educational post, to me anyway. I have seen few of these around in beautiful German Sporters over the year. Half octagon barrels, full length ribs, engraved etc. etc. for very reasonable prices. Usually in the US$700-900 range when the same in 30-06 would be US$1200 or up. I have always passed because of I what I viewed as an underpowered, in comparison, hunting cartridge.

The 270 is quite snappy, the 7x57 is less so. I assumed that the 8x57 would be a bit doggy. Live and learn. Now that I will keep my eyes open I will probably never see another.
