In your opinion,
1. Would you honestly shoot at an animal with an open sighted 86 in 45/70
at 300 yards ?

2. Have you ever done it ?

3. If so, do you honestly think an animal would drop to the shot ?

We tested a 45/70 (I hink lever action Marlin) and a 458 Wing Mag (Win Mod 70)
at a 500 yard steel plate. It took my mate and I 7 shots each before we hit it and
the trajectory of both guns was a true Rainbow shape - we were watcing the projectiles
as they flew through the air.

Therefore I do not believe or think t should be perpetuated that a 45/70 is a 300 yard
gun, even with a scope.

If ou have hunted Lion, what bullet, velocity, load were you using AND
do you honestly think a 45/70 would stop a CHARGING lion in it's
tracks at 5, 10, 20ft from you if slightly off centre - ie misses the brain
/ spine so I suppose the qustion is, Does it in your opinion have enough
shock to have some affect.
