Re: 8x68S RWS inquiry.

Hello Gentlemen,

I used an accurate 8x68S on a plains game hunt in Namibia with 200grs Accubonds for longer ranges and 200grs A-Frames upto 120 meters.

Around 10 animals were collected, one zebra at 330 meters, two wildebeest between 90 and 140 meters, two oryx at 150m and 160 meters and several sprinboks (30meters - 160 meters).
All distances were measured with a laser range finder from Leica.

If I did my job, all animals were collected with one shot.
One Accubond (of the zebra) was collected, and none of the A-Frames. However, all the exit holes were coin-sized or more and the bullet had expanded. Also the organs were damaged and not only punctured.
Damage on the near springboks was too much, and I switched to a 7x57 for the short distances.

With my limited experience I can recommend the cartridge for ranges beyond 150 meters, if you have access to the cases (available from RWS and SHM, both in Germany).

The cartridge can be used in a (Mauser) 98 system, but normally the standard magazine boxes limit the OAL to ca. 88mm.
If you want so seat out the 200grs Accubonds (which I found very helpful for precision and lowering pressures), an enlarged magazine box which permits OAL = 92mm would be an advantage.

kind reagrds
Rolf
