One of my German friends used an 8x68S on one of his several hunts out here in NZ. One particular hunt he used a chopper to drop him into mountain huts, staying one or two nights in each and day hunting alone in each locality. He shot 10 chamois, a bull tahr and a red stag on that trip, and we spent a day in my backyard cleaning up all the skulls ready for him to take back to Germany. From memory his rifle was a single shot but can't recall the make although he did have guns custom made in Ferlach so could have been something on those lines. I do know his ammo as he left behind a bunch with me on his return to Germany, they were the RWS ammo with copper capped H-Mantle bullets as seen in some of the images posted by others here. I ended up selling the ammo to a guy advertising for 6.5x68 brass. My friend seemed to have good success with his 8x68S and I think it was the gun he also used in Hungary hunting red stag and boar. His wife who also hunted with him in Hungary used a 9.3x62. |
