Re: Is the 7mm Rem Mag slow and never achieved predictions?

7MM mag, with factory ammo usually did 2,860fps with 175's. They've changed the data now on factory ammo boxes, I think.
A .280 Ack/IMP will do that with a 26" bl.

I have a friend who "got" 3,050fps with 150gr. Sierra's in his factory 24" Belgium Browning .270. He shot quite a few moose with that rifle, including an Alaskan moose (in Spatzizi park, B.C.) It was huge & all his Cessna 185 could do to pack it out. Good thing Laslui Lake is a long one. He shot the moose in the low ground along the creek on the west end of the lake.
In exactly 700rounds the normally sub-MOA accuracy climbed to 1 1/2". I checked it out and it had 1 1/2" of throat erosion.
I re-barreled it with a PacNor 26" barrel, and he still gets just over 3,000fps with it, but with the max. load of H4831 instead of the same amount of IMR4831.
Yes- stiff bolt lift with the IMR load, every time. He thought that was normal and did not know there was a difference in those powders. Nuff said.
