The 303 was a good enough killer on deer sized animals, the 10 shot magazine handy when shooting up mobs of deer or goats. Not that many SMLEs come up for sale now, most that do are collectors items.
The above was my first centerfire rifle I ever owned.. shot buckets of whitetail deer with that rifle..and yes, when party hunting during drives, that 10 round magazine come in very handy.. and was reasonably accurate actually..
I am taking it out elk hunting this year a time or two.,.have never taken an elk with it or tried for that matter..Ammo in this caliber is currently hard to find in my area..
