Very interesting information in this thread, thanks to all for posting. I have never owned a 222 but have always known them to be tac drivers. I have Dads old Slazenger 22 Hornet. For those who do not know this is a Lthgow SMLE re-barreled and adapted to the Hornet with a Hornet specific magazine. With the right ammo this rear locker still puts 5 into the inch. dad with the open sights used to put 10 into the inch at 100yards. he used IMI 45 grain ammo and was a man who could shoot. So I never saw the need. I do now own a Rem M7 in 223 only because a pro shooter I some times help supplies the ammo.
