Cheap brass - the RCMP who rents out range for qualifications and practice, NEVER picks or cleans up their brass. Only our civilian members do that - interesting - the police do seem rather, ahh - sloppy. They use Fed Match in the .308's and Fed. brass in their M16's, MP4's or whatever, etc.
The local police used to practice on a quarry on my Dad's land. I used to go and pick up their .380 ACP brass left lying on the ground. And a few .357 Mags. I think they picked up a few, but definitely not a determined search for them.
