I have only ever owned two .25-06 (still) and a .338-06.
Personally, the .30-06 and it's sprouts, are all great cartridges.
They all have a place and many overlap each other, as you would expect.

If I had to pick one (for global hunting-non dangerous game), I would probably go with the .270 Win.
It's a great performer (and has been, for 90 years now) and you can buy ammo for it, almost any where.
