The "Scout Rifle" idea with an intermediate eye relief scope mounted forward isn't that new at all. Here is a photo of my Haenel, Suhl 1900 model in 8x57I with it's contemporary Voigtlaender, Brunswick, "Skopar D" 3x scope. This early scope was already obsolete when WW1 started in 1914.
