The only rifle in my gunsafe that could be called 'varmint' is a Sako L-46 .222 from the early 1950s.

That rifle has a short, medium-profile barrel with Mannlicher-style stock in two pieces, not bedded in any particular way, yet it shoots 5/8 inch groups at 100m all day long. This with an early Pecar in claw mounts.

Sure PCCan, Rugers are nice as far as modern longarms go, but as they say, "Life is too short to hunt with anything other than vintage classics"!

...especially when there is no penalty relating to accuracy and the handling quality is always nicer!
