Well, there's always 7x57. Great range of projectile weights and styles, medium recoil in a light-ish rifle, more than enough energy to get the job done out to 350-400m (if you really think you're that good) and above all, a great classic. (and there's a rimmed version available if you need it)

Failing that, a .303 (Brit).

ps I thought the mannlicher version of the rifle looked pretty cool.
