I know other hunters like shorter barrels, but I do like 26" of barrel. My new Browning .300 Win Mag.and old .375/06 IMP both have 26" bls. My 9.3x62 has only 21.5" and it just feels too stubby.
I like 26" on the ultra-mags or weatherby mags..but for me in the thicker stuff and what is normally shorter ranges, 200 yards or less, I like 24 or even 22....I know this is a very particular thing for each hunter..but that is what I personally like in 375H&H on up...
Whatever you chose, shoot it a lot and get very used to it..
As to mounts, I have both..detach on the Blaser...fixed on the others...have never had an issue with the fixed and my experience with them is much greater than the Blaser so hopefully others will weigh in on this..
