I don't know much about the Newton rifles, but I remember reading that quality Mauser 98 rifles fitted with cocking piece peeps, had a pin or screw fitted to the bridge that would ensure that the peep was always properly aligned each time the bolt was closed.
I think Joel Dorleac gave details on this in a thread here somewhere. I tried to find it but couldn't track it down.
