If you'll look in an old Rigby action with a cocking piece sight, the top of the sear is notched.
The corresponding face at the bottom of the cocking piece is pointed, so it fits into the notch,
going to centre every time. If the sear is a reasonably close fit in the slot in the bottom of the
action, the sight maintains windage very well.
