I understand your dilemma since I was faced with an analogous one several years ago. My rifle was identical with yours except for the caliber, which was 8X57IS. I reluctantly solved it by selling the rifle and buying one more suited for scope use. Should you decide to proceed with the idea of mounting a scope, but still want to preserve the EAWrifle in as original a shape as possible, a side mount, such as EAW is the best solution, but you will have to mount the scope high enough to allow the bolt handle to clear, unless you are willing to modify it as well. There is no need to modify the safety, as it is ideal for use with a scope. However, mounting the scope high enough to clear the bolt handle means that it will be too high in relation with the stock, making it difficult to aim with, particularly in a situation where speed is essential. Finally, although 7X57 is a fine caliber, I question whether it is a good choice for use against thin skinned dangerous game, such as leopard. This would be another argument for selling or trading the rifle in favor of a more appropriate rifle and cartridge. |
