There are so many factory cartridges and wildcats out there that every combination of caliber from the .14Walker to the 4bore has already been claimed. If someone can come up with a new caliber that can be widely accepted by the shooting fraternity as better than what already exists then they deserve to have their name stamped on the barrel and the cartridge head. Norma recently designed the .338 Norma. By shortening the Lapua case so the bullet does not extend into the cone and by reducing the taper of the case walls to compensate for shorter case. This was done to increase precision and still fit in a Lapua mag. Will it replac the Lapua? Nosler came out with the .26 Nosler due to the popularity of the 6.5/.284 Winchester. Winchester came out with its .17WSM rimfire. Will it catch on time will tell but there are only two guns that chamber it. The low cost Savage B-Mag and the pricey and unobtainable Winchester low wall single shot. I think a .22WSM would have been better. Hornet performance at .22WRM price. The .223WSSM did not catch on. Same can be said of the RSAUMs. The .17 Hornet is new. Will it become as popular as its bigger brother? What does the hunter/shooter want that is not already out there? |
