The 300 Norma is based off the 338 Norma, basically they push the shoulder of the 338 Lapua back just under 1/4". The thinking is that with the heavy bullets you keep the base from seating below the neck. The 300 was designed to shoot the 230-240gr match bullets a long way with high retained energy.
