In the States, the Jenks Carbines were a sort of earlier or same time equivalent = the raising tang mounted lever (line the monkey tail) pulled back a plunger(like the monkey tail) opened up a hole in the top breech end of the barrel (like a Ferguson rifle), where loose ball and powder could be loaded, the tang's lever closed the side slapper capped and thus ready to fire.
