I'm looking at moving to the US. First rifle i'll be getting will be a cheap AR based rifle in .223. Why? Because i've never been allowed to own one here and i think they'd be a ton of fun. Don't see why they wouldnt work as well as anything else for hunting, and would happily go out with it.
