Re: Calibers and Barrel Lengths for a Mosin Nagant

ONE of the reasons that first drew me to the Mosin Nagant was the availability of cheap surplus ammo in a full power cartridge. Thankfully soft point hunting ammo is also available at affordable prices. So I think Im gonna stick with 762x54r.

As far as barrel lengths 20 inches (50cms) seems to work out perfectly for the full stock gun, since it will leave me the original "dog collar" escussions for looks and allow me to hang metal swivels through them as on the Finn capture guns. My plan (for now--who knows tomarrow) is to use the military barrel assuming it continues to shoot well. I'll remove the rear sight as well and replace both sights with something sporting with a 50's/60's flair.

For the half stock, I definetly want the octagonal barrel with a slim profile, 24inches (60cms) seems do-able. Im thinking a short stock length with a sling mount on the barrel.

Id like both guns to "feel" the same. To do that I wanna make both grips similar, either wood or metal (or horn).
