I find with animals far enough away from me to need 'laser ranging', there is plenty of time to use the rangefinder. Mine fits in a shirt pocket, or in it's little holster on my belt beside my Leatherman "Wave" (VORTEX 1000).
I will and do range big game with my range finder - just to test my range estimations, but mostly only use the range finder when shooting gophers. I don't (have to) shoot big game at longer ranges than a "point-blank" demands.
Agree--we use them all the time for hunting and also training..if we are sitting around on a hillside having lunch --we play the range game-one guess and the other ranges to see how close we get 5 out of 5..loser buys lunch when we get back to town..fun and makes you better when a quicker decison is needed..
