You mentioned the old 270RN Hornadys - noted to be a tougher bullet (I've never shot anything with them myself) than the 300gr. RN. Well done - but I personally think the 270 RN's should be kept for heavier game, with the 225 or softer bullet for lighter, more easily killed game. A local lad, brother of my best friend, using the first 9.5x68 we put together, used a 250 Barnes X for all his hunting, from deer to grizzlies. That barrel, now retired, has over 15,000 rounds through it and I have it in the dead barrel bin, although now modified into a different wildcat altogether that I tested briefly on a Styer 8x56R action. Point is, the 250 Barnes X and now the improved TSX will do it all. I am currently loading and shooting 270gr. TSX (copper pencils) in my .375/06IMP at 2,650fps - cloverleafs at 100 meters - BLC2 & H4895 is the powder of choice for all bullet weights. My .375 chambering has 78-80gr. capacity, just a gr. or so under the .376 Styer. Loading data will be quite similar. |
