Hello friends, I know I going to say I'm crazy. You know that I bought a Weatherby Vanguard in 300 Weatherby but I soon sold it, first because 24 inch barrel for firing the cartridge did not convince me then is because I wanted to buy a shotgun skeet.
But now again I'm saving for a long-range rifle, and I thought about buying a rifle cartridge 300 RUM (Remington Ultra Magnum), which makes me doubt it is the rifle that I will choose, so I ask advice:
Remington 700 BDL-
-Remington SPS
-Remington Sendero
I await your answers. Thank you,
Ovny.
Helllo Ovny,
I wanted to respond to your question as I have been using a 300RUM since they come out..mine is in a HS Precision...have hunted around the world with it and I personally love it..you can really crank them up if you hand load..or tune them down around 300 WIN ballistics if you want..Bullets I primarily use are either the Swift A-Frame or Scirroco...depending on the game I am hunting..as they just shoot really well out of that gun...I have several targets shooting under 1/2" group with that rifle at 100yards testing loads..it is incredibly accurate for a hunting rifle.
Recoil is a very personal thing. What is a lot to some is o.k. for others... I am not a big guy..5'10..185lbs...but I have NO problem with the recoil..in fact I also have the 7RUM, 338RUM and 375RUM...shoot them all..again depending on what I am hunting..
Agree with the comments you probably don't need a 300RUM for hunting..but I view that similar to needing another rifle...in most cases wants override needs.. and I am totally o.k. with that..

Now you speak 7 RUM, I see more and more logical than the 300 RUM when I have longer a 338 Winchester Magnum. What do you think? Well I think for stalking 7 RUM I will come just as well.
Ovny.
The 7rum is a very fast cartridge...and will cleanly kill anything that walks within reason and type of bullet used..factory loads are around 3450 fps for 140 gr loads..and yes, if recoil is an issue, it will also be slightly less..
