Re: In between .243 and 300 ultra mag

I guess if I had seen a bunch of game lost to a .270, I wouldn't like it either. However, my Tikka .270 is a tack driver and has accounted for a few pigs now. My opinion: if one can't shoot a .270 accurately, then one won't be able to shoot a 308 or 280 either. It (the 270) packs a respectable wallop if driven to the correct target area. Regarding a .270 WSM, A buddy of mine has one, and he reports the following:

1) It is very accurate and flat shooting.

2) Ammo selection & availability leaves something to be desired

3) He has controlled round feeding (CRF) for his rifle, and has not had any problems (with the fat WSM cases). I've personally heard of some feeding issues with them, but not seen one yet. You might consider CRF if you were to choose such a caliber.

I've been pondering a .300 WSM or maybe even a 325 WSM (which just came out). It would be a good step up for me.

You could always get one of each? Wouldn't that be nice? I think if I were in your shoes, I'd go for the .308. It’s a great round, indeed.

Good luck, and let us know what you decide.
