Karl, a lot depends on where you live, if you're not choosey as to which action/barrel you want then you can get a good deal along the way - too many options out there really! I started my 9.3x64 back in the mid '80s, took years to get a decent barrel (Donnelly barrel I think it was, cobbled it to a Mark X action & fitted it to a Parker Hale stock. Took years to get it going - much easier getting barrels etc now-a-days! Prefer TSE barrels here in Oz, Lothar Walter are very good also! If you don't mind my suggestion, I would save for a CZ / Tikka in 9.3x62 & then its just a rechambering job basically. Regardless you will still need to do some action work from a "standard" action (open feed rails & bolt face a little). Otherwise you're going to need to buy a donor rifle, rebarrel, sights etc - more cost & greater build time. As far a capacity, the best I can fit in the Mark X is three cartridges & that's pushing it! The CZ & Tikka (if I remember correctly) have a capacity of 3 standard magnum rounds, you might squeeze 4 into the CZ if you're lucky, but you get 5 in for a 62! Best to get your rounds & try on a friend's rifle if you can first. If you're after Bottom metal - refer Custom Gun & rifle (USA) email:- duane@customgunandrifle.com . Best of luck on the build, its a great cartridge & does it more efficiently than the .375H&H! Cheers 93x64mm |
