I had a nicely checkered & blued Neidner Butt Plate on my first .458 2" - looked really nice and since I was a young fellow, the recoil wasn't too bad at all. I was running 400gr. at 2,150fps, 350's at 2,290fps and 500's at 2,060fps.

So - a .308 would be easy - for a strong well muscled young fellow.

Today, I'd probably put a nice, recoil absorbing Limbsaver recoil pad on it.
