If the new 71s are as slick and solid as the Winchester originals, or the Browning/Miroku remakes from the 1980s, they are fine guns. I have a Browning carbine, in .348 WIN of course, which has now been sent off to for conversion to .475 Turnbull with a 26 inch barrel.

Don't get me wrong the .348 is a great cartridge. 270 gr bullets with great S.D. at 2150 FPS are sufficient for anything in North America. It's no wonder the gun has always been a popular carry in Alaska.

I guess like Mr. Johnson long ago I just saw potential in going a bit bigger for even more of a stopper. I look at the 71 as the ultimate development of the J.M. Browning 1886 action. I use a Lyman aperture sight on mine.
