Is it really necessary to buy him his own entry level gun just to say it's his exclusively. Is it a right of passage and a manhood thing to buy him his own. Or just let him use my guns as the needs arise

I think that if the lad shows he is responsible enough to have his own rifle then it is good for him to have one.
Also he will get a big kick from being able to occasionally shoot (borrow) some of dads rifles.
